Israel Declared War on Syria?

Israeli warplanes struck areas in and around the Syrian capital Sunday, setting off a series of explosions as they targeted a shipment of highly accurate, Iranian-made guided missiles believed to be bound for Lebanon's Hezbollah militant group, officials and activists said.
The attack, the second in three days and the third this year, signaled a sharp escalation of Israel's involvement in Syria's bloody civil war. Syrian state media reported that Israeli missiles struck a military and scientific research center near Damascus and caused casualties.
Syria's government called the attacks against against its territory a "flagrant violation of international law" that have made the Middle East "more dangerous."
Information Minister Omran al-Zoubi, who read a Cabinet statement to reporters Sunday in Damascus following an emergency government meeting, claimed the Israeli strikes are evidence of the Jewish state's links with Islamic extremist groups trying to overthrow President Bashar Assad's regime.
He added that Syria has the right and the duty "to defend its people by all available means."
While the government tried to use the airstrikes to taint the rebels by linking them to Israel, Syria's arch rival, the attacks still pose a dilemma for an Assad regime already battling a relentless rebellion at home. If it fails to respond, it looks weak and opens the door to such airstrikes becoming a common occurrence. But any military retaliation against Israel would risk dragging the Jewish state and its powerful army into a broader conflict.
The tempo of the new strikes added a dangerous dynamic to the conflict, fueling concerns that events could spin out of control and spark a regional crisis.
Israel's military on Sunday deployed two batteries of its Iron Dome rocket defense system to the north of the country. It described the move as part of "ongoing situational assessments."
A senior Israeli official, who spoke on condition of anonymity in order to disclose information about a secret military operation to the media, confirmed that Israel launched an airstrike in the Syrian capital early Sunday but did not give more precise details about the location. The target was Fateh-110 missiles, which have precision guidance systems with better aim than anything Hezbollah is known to have in its arsenal, the official told The Associated Press.
The airstrikes come as Washington considers how to respond to indications that the Syrian regime may have used chemical weapons in its civil war. President Barack Obama has described the use of such weapons as a "red line," and the administration is weighing its options - including possible military action.
Iran, a close ally of the Assad regime, condemned the airstrikes, and a senior official hinted at a possible response not from Terhan, but rather Hezbollah.
Gen. Masoud Jazayeri, assistant to the Iranian chief-of-staff, told Iran's state-run Arabic-language Al-Alam TV that Tehran "will not allow the enemy (Israel) to harm the security of the region." He added that "the resistance will retaliate to the Israeli aggression against Syria."
Israel has said it wants to stay out of the Syrian war, but Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly stated the Jewish state would be prepared to take military action to prevent sophisticated weapons from flowing from Syria to Hezbollah or other extremist groups.
Israel and Hezbollah fought a monthlong war in mid-2006. The militant group fired thousands of rockets at Israel, while Israeli warplanes destroyed large areas of southern and eastern Lebanon during a conflict that ended in stalemate.
Earlier this year, the Iron Dome system was credited with shooting down hundreds of rockets during a round of fighting against Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip.
Israel is especially concerned that Hezbollah will take advantage of the chaos in neighboring Syria and try to smuggle advanced weapons into Lebanon. These include anti-aircraft missiles, which could hamper Israel's ability to operate in Lebanese skies, and advanced Yakhont missiles that are used to attack naval ships from the coast.
Syria's state news agency reported explosions at the Jamraya military and scientific research center near Damascus and said initial reports indicate they were the "result of Israeli missiles." It said there were casualties but did not give a number.
Damascus-based activist Maath al-Shami said the strikes occurred around 3 a.m. "Damascus shook. The explosion was very, very strong," said al-Shami adding that one of the attacks occurred near the capital's Qasioun mountain that overlooks Damascus.
He said the raid targeted a military position for the elite Republican Guards that is in charge of protecting Damascus, Assad's seat of power.
Mohammed Saeed, another activist who lives in the Damascus suburb of Douma, said "the explosions were so strong that earth shook under us." He said the smell of the fire caused by the air raid near Qasioun was noticeable miles away.
Israeli media reported that Netanyahu also was holding an emergency meeting of his inner Security Cabinet. The prime minister's office declined comment.
Amos Yadlin, a former head of Israel's military intelligence, said the strikes on Syria are a signal toDamascus' ally, Tehran, that Israel is serious about the red lines it has set.
"Syria is a very important part in the front that Iran has built. Iran is testing Israel and the U.S. determination in the facing of red lines and what it sees is in clarifies to it that at least some of the players, when they define red lines and they are crossed, take it seriously," he told Army Radio.
Like the Syrian regime, Iran also portrayed the strike as evidence of collusion between Israel and Syria's rebels.
Iranian defense minister Gen. Ahmad Vahidi was quoted by the official IRNA news agency as saying the attacks show a growing alliance of convenience between the Syrian opposition and Israel.
"These vain moves are not a sign of Israel's power," he said. "It rather shows the (Israeli) regime's despair in the face of regional developments."
Iran has provided both financial and military support to Hezbollah for decades, and has used Syria as a conduit for both. If Assad were to fall, that pipeline could be cut, dealing a serious blow to Hezbollah's ability to confront Israel.
The Fateh-110, or "Conqueror" in Farsi, is a short-range ballistic missile developed by Iran and first put into service in 2002. The Islamic Republic unveiled an upgraded version in 2012 that improved the weapon's accuracy and increased its range to 300 kilometers (185 miles).
Vahidi said at the time that the solid-fueled missile could strike with pinpoint precision, making it the most accurate weapon of its kind in Iran's arsenal.
An Israeli airstrike in January also targeted weapons apparently bound for Hezbollah, Israeli and U.S. officials have said. The White House had no immediate comment on Sunday's reported missile strikes.
The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, an activist group, also reported large explosions in the area of Jamraya, a military and scientific research facility northwest of Damascus, about 15 kilometers (10 miles) from the Lebanese border.
Hezbollah's Al-Manar TV said the research center in Jamraya was not hit, but instead an army supply facility that produced food products for the military. It quoted unnamed Syrian security officials as saying that three sites including military barracks, arms depots and air defense center were targeted by the strike.
The station aired footage of what it said was the Jamraya facility hit in the strike. It showed a heavily damaged building as well as what appeared to be a chicken farm with some chickens pecking around in debris scattered with dead birds.
The raid appeared to have taken place next to a major road that was filled with debris, and shell casings were strewn on the ground. A blue street sign on the side of the road referred to the direction of the Lebanon border and the Syrian town of Zabadani near the frontier.
Lebanon's Al-Mayadeen TV, which has several reporters around Syria, said one of the strikes targeted a military position in the village of Saboura, west of Damascus and about 10 kilometers (six miles) from the Lebanon border.
An amateur video said to be shot early Sunday in the Damascus area showed fire lighting up the night sky. The video appeared genuine and corresponded to other AP reporting.
Uzi Rubin, a missile expert and former Defense Ministry official, told the AP that if the target were Fateh-110 missiles as reported then it is a game changer as they put almost all Israel in range and can accurately hit targets.
Rubin emphasized that he was speaking as a rocket expert and had no details on reported strikes.
"If fired from southern Lebanon they can reach Tel Aviv and even (the southern city of) Beersheba." He said the rockets are much five times more accurate than the scud missiles that Hezbollah has fired in the past. "It is a game changer because they are a threat to Israel's infrastructure and military installations," he said.
Israel's first airstrike in Syria, in January, also struck Jamraya. U.S. officials said it targeted trucks next to the research center that carried SA-17 anti-aircraft missiles.

What Means Armed Self Defense?

A wide variety of weapons could potentially be used for self-defence. Which is most suitable depends on those to be protected, the training of weapon user - and the situation and level of threat.
In many cases there are also legal restrictions. While in some jurisdictions firearms may be carried openly or concealed expressly for this purpose, there are more commonly strict restrictions on who can own firearms, and what types they can own. Knives, especially those categorized as switchblades may also be controlled, as may batons, pepper spray and personal stun guns and Tasers - although some may be legal to carry with a licence or for certain professions.
Non-injurious water-based self-defense indelible dye-marker sprays, or ID-marker or DNA-marker sprays linking a suspect to a crime scene, would in most places be legal to own and carry.
Everyday objects, such as flashlights, baseball bats, newspapers, keyrings with keys, kitchen utensils and other tools, and hair spray aerosol cans in combination with a lighter, can also be used as improvised weapons for self-defense. Tie-wraps double as an effective restraint. Weapons such as the Kubotan (pocket stick) have been built for ease of carry and to resemble everyday objects.Tactical flashlights and tactical pens are especially built as impact weapons that resemble everyday objects.Ballpoint pen knives, swordsticks, cane guns and modified umbrellas are similar categories of concealed self-defense weapons that serve a dual purpose.

What is a Weapon?

weaponarm, or armament is any device used in order to inflict damage or harm to living beings, structures, or systems. Weapons are used to increase the efficacy and efficiency of activities such as hunting, crime, law enforcement, self-defense, and warfare. In a broader context, weapons may be construed to include anything used to gain a strategic, material or mental advantage over an adversary.
While ordinary objects such as sticks, stones, cars, or pencils can be used as weapons, many are expressly designed for the purpose – ranging from simple implements such as clubs to swords and guns and on to complicated modern intercontinental ballistic missiles, biological and cyberweapons.

What is Death?

Death is the permanent cessation of all biological functions that sustain a living organism. Phenomena which commonly bring about death include biological aging (senescence), predation, malnutrition, disease, suicide, murder and accidents or trauma resulting in terminal injury.Bodies of living organisms begin todecompose shortly after death. The death of an organism also results in a permanent absence of consciousness.
In human societies, the nature of death has for millennia been a concern of the world's religious traditions and of philosophical inquiry. This may include a belief in some kind of resurrection (associated with Abrahamic religions), reincarnation (associated with Dharmic religions), or that consciousness permanently ceases to exist, known as oblivion (associated sometimes with atheism).
Commemoration ceremonies after death may include various mourning or funereal practices. The physical remains of a person, commonly known as a corpse orbody, are usually interred whole or cremated, though among the world's cultures there are a variety of other methods of mortuary disposal. In the English language, blessings directed towards a deceased person include rest in peace, or its initials RIP.
The most common cause of human deaths in the world is heart disease, followed by stroke and other cerebrovascular diseases, and on the third place lower respiratory infections.

Underwater German WWII bomber to be salvaged

A famous German WWII bomber has spent decades submerged in the English Channel — but that's about to change.
British officials on Friday announced a complex salvage operation to rescue the only known surviving example of the German Dornier Do 17 bomber, an aircraft nicknamed "the flying pencil" because of its narrow fuselage.
The wreck is located just off the Kent coast in southeast England in about 60 feet (20 meters) of water. The plane had been shot down during the 1940 Battle of Britain, a monthslong struggle over the skies of Britain that saw RAF fighters engaged in a colossal life-or-death struggle with the German Luftwaffe.
Experts said the bomber, discovered by divers five years ago, is remarkably undamaged despite the passage of time.
Officials at the RAF Museum in London said the challenging salvage will be the biggest recovery of its kind and they hope to one day display the bomber at the museum.
Museum director Peter Dye said the bomber will be exhibited next to a Hawker Hurricane fighter that had also been shot down during the Battle of Britain.
"We feel it's important that they be exhibited side by side," he said, pointing out that two German airmen died in the Dornier. "With time, we recognize that young men died on both sides, which is why we don't intend to restore it. We will conserve it and place it on exhibition alongside the wreck of a Hurricane shot down at much the same time in which a British pilot died."
Plans call for the plane to be lifted out of the water in three or four weeks if preparations go well. But Dye cautioned that the recovery would be dangerous — divers will only be able to work for 45 minutes at a time, among other challenges.
"We are not guaranteed success," he said. "There have been previous aircraft recovery projects that didn't go so well, cases where the structure has disintegrated on retrieval. When it breaks the surface, gravity and the laws of mechanics come into play, so we very much hope the frame we've constructed will support that structure."
Corrosion is another obstacle that could spoil the procedure, he said.
Dye said the German government was aware of the recovery operation.

One person Linds won't be looking to for guidance on this whole situation anymore? Mark Heller.
A source tells E! News the Mean Girls star is in the process of firing her outspoken attorney and in the process of getting Shawn Holley to return as her main legal counsel.

Ryan Lochte Dishes to Chelsea Handler About His Mom's

Ryan Lochte is training for love.
Appearing on last night's Chelsea Lately, the Olympic swimming champ opened up about how he's able to balance partying and his dedication to the pool, what his mom's one-night stand remarks were all about, and his desire to find the One.
When Chelsea Handler asked him about how he manages to drink and still maintain his training regimen, Lochte said it's all about manning up."My philosophy is if you're a man at night you gotta be a man in the morning," he said. "So if I go out and beat my body up, go out drinking, dancing, staying up late, you know I still got a job to do and nothing's gonna get in that way."
Regarding those eyebrow-raising comments his mom made last July when she told Today that the gold medalist "goes out on one-night stands" and is "always on the go," Lochte explained that she has a slightly different definition of the term.
"My mom's old-fashion. So back then when she said 'one-night stand,' that means going on a date. That's what she thought it was," he told the funny lady.As for getting a girlfriend?
"You know, I've done the whole dating game….and I'm over it, the What Would Ryan Do star replied. "I mean, I'm at a point in my life where I do want to settle down and I want to find that one where I can spend the rest of my life with and give my heart to someone. I haven't found it yet."
"Well it sounds like you're trying to get on The Bachelor," quipped Chelsea.

Lindsay Lohan Flees Rehab

While the Liz & Dick star's lawyer, Mark Heller, told Judge James Dabney that his client is currently "ensconced in the bosom"of the Morningside Recovery Center in Newport Beach, Calif., at a hearing this morning, that doesn't seem to be the case just yet.
As for her whereabouts, Lohan was reportedly seen at a Fry's Electronics store in Fountain Valley, Calif., while her attorney was in court today claiming the actress was already in rehab.Following her little shopping excursion, Lohan eventually did go to the facility. However, a source informed E! News that she simply walked in and walked out.
And now it seems as Lohan is looking to do more than walk.
While her exact location at this moment remains unclear, another source told us that Lohan "has just now decided she doesn't want to go into rehab and is in a car back to LAX" and is planning to fly back to New York City.Sources speculate that Lohan could be on her way to Seafield Center in Westhampton Beach, N.Y., upon the request of Santa Monica City Attorney Terry White. However, the facility is not commenting.
Meanwhile, Mary Helen Beatificato, the CEO at Morningside Recovery, is refuting reports that her facility isn't licensed to provide drug and alcohol treatment.
"This is completely false," she said in a statement on Thursday. "This clinical facility is certified by the California Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs as meeting all minimum standards of care and treatment."
Of course, in Lohan's case, it now may not matter either way.

Jennifer Lawrence Looks Gorgeous at Great Gatsby Premiere

Katniss comes clean! Jennifer Lawrence sported a flawless complexion and fresh face at the Great Gatsby premiere in New York City on Wednesday, May 1, ditching her usual smokey eyes and glam red carpet look for a pretty pink pout and minimal mascara.
The Hunger Games star, 22, wore an elegant black sleeveless Viktor + Rolf frock with simple draping for the themed evening and kept her demeanor demure as she smiled for cameras. Lawrence has previously spoken out about her fear of red carpet events, claiming that she turns into a "chihuahua" when placed in front of the flashing lights.
"I'm afraid I'm going to go my whole life being scared like a chihuahua," she told UK's Fabulous magazine. "It's not my comfort zone. Making movies is where I belong. I shouldn't be heard just talking. … When you put me on a red carpet or on a stage, I turn into chihuahua Jennifer."
Earlier this week, the actress -- who debuted a new short 'do at the 2013 GLAAD Media Awards on April 20 -- was spotted grabbing dinner with former flame Nicholas Holt, 23, at L.A. eatery The Little Door.
The pair, who called it quits in late 2012 after dating for about two years, reportedly sat in the back room of the restaurant and were "happy and laughing" throughout their date.
"They looked flirtatious," an onlooker told Us Weekly. However, another source cautioned, the duo are also in the beginning stages of shooting their sequel X-Men: Days of Future Past together, so the happy chatter could have been work-related.
"They started talking again for the movie's sake," the source told Us. "If anything, she broke his heart and they are taking it slow."

Kourtney & Kim Take Miami

Mariah Carey Is Nick Cannon's Princess

Eat your heart out, Cinderella!

After celebrating their fifth wedding anniversary Tuesday night at Disneyland, the R&B princess couldn't resist taking to Twitter to share a pic of her and her Prince Charming, Nick Cannon.
"Celebrating our anniversary @ #dembabies birthday (can you believe they're 2??)," Carey tweeted.
The couple was accompanied by their adorable twins Monroe and Morrocan, who were dressed in matching prince and princess costumes as mommy and daddy and also just so happened to be turning two the same day Nick and Mariah renewed their wedding vows.
The twosome held the posh ceremony in front of Sleeping Beauty's Castle after a horse-drawn Crystal Carriage ride down Main Street (the park was closed to the public for the occasion).
Per Entertainment Tonight, the Royal Footman from Cinderella, Major Domo, served as Master of Ceremonies for the evening and afterwards the approximately 250 guests raised a glass to Mariah and Nick at a champagne toast and reception at Fantasyland.
Cannon subsequently served as DJ for the anniversary party, which, of course, featured a who's who of Disney characters such as Mickey and Minnie Mouse. While guests were able to roam the park freely without the usual crowds and ride the Matterhorn Bobsleds rollercoaster, Peter Pan and other attractions.
As for Mariah, Nick and family, they lived happily ever after.

Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton: "Fighting" in the show

Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton are on the rocks again, according to a new report, and Sheryl Crow's guest role on The Voice may be to blame.“Despite being married, Miranda and Blake are like ships passing in the night,” a National Enquirer source says of the problems they're having.
“Between their touring schedules and public appearances, they’re actually together only about 50 days a year. That’s no way to run a marriage."
"Suspicions and jealousies creep up between them.”
Speaking of jealousies, Blake's decision to have Sheryl Crow come on The Voice as his team's guest mentor has further caused a rift with Miranda.
“Miranda lit into Blake. She bawled and screamed that he’s heartless, and he yelled back that she needs to chill out and trust him,” a pal said.
“Sheryl’s been texting and calling Blake during off-hours, and Miranda is extremely annoyed,” says the insider, although there's one ironic twist:
Miranda was his first choice for the role.
“Blake originally wanted Miranda to be his celebrity mentor this season, and of course the producers of The Voice were all for it,” an insider revealed.
“While she had to turn it down because there would be conflicts with her schedule, it still became the cause of a few major arguments between them.”
Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton reportedly fight over where they'd like to spend time, and flirty Blake being surrounded by young girls doesn't help.
“Remember, Miranda and Blake began flirting with each other while he was still married,” the pal said of the cheating rumors that hit close to home.
“Blake and Miranda really need to make the effort to give their marriage time to blossom and grow. As it is now, they’re drifting further and further apart.”
Maybe so, but just last month, Miranda publicly announced that “divorce is not an option,” and said that she'd stand by her man.
They've mocked previous coverage of their demise as well, so if this marriage is in turmoil, we expect they're aware of it and working on it at least.

Bethenny Frankel: Shocked

The Bethenny Frankel divorce was supposed to be amicable.
That's how the talk show host herself described it a few months ago in a statement, telling the world that she and Jason Hoppy hoped to "co-parent" daughter Bryn, who turns 3 next month.
So... what happened?
"I really did think it would be amicable. I absolutely did," Frankel tells People of a split that has turned contentious, with battles over Bryn and apartment ownership brewing. "I wrote that entire statement myself. And every single word, I believed to be true."
Where will the legal fight go from here?
No one can say at the moment, but, the Skinnygirl gal continues to be as positive as she can be.
"The truth of the matter is, you go with your gut at the time," she says. "Whatever I'm going through now, I'm certain that I'll learn something from it. When the clouds pass, I will figure out what the silver lining was."

Alexis Bellino of The Real Housewives of Orange County is speaking out about her beef with Tamra Barney and her return to the Bravo show after supposedly quitting. As loyal watchers know, an intimate dinner at Barney's new fitness studio immediately devolved into mass chaos, with the co-stars in the middle of it.
Tamra forcibly removed Alexis from the premises, telling her the "get the f--- out," leaving Bellino friends Vicki Gunvalson and Lydia Stirling-McLaughlin stunned.
"I definitely regret going to Tamra's party," Bellino said. "Who wouldn't?!?"

Reluctantly accepting pal Gunvalson's invite, "I went with pure intentions, with the hopes that everyone was ready to move on ... I just went in open minded."
"And I got the door shut in my face. Which is okay!"
Indeed, after an intense seventh season, Bellino seriously considered walking away forever from the show. "I really did quit," she admits to Us Weekly.
With things reaching a breaking point during a trip to Costa Rica, "I had a rough year last season," she says. "I was just really down and in a sad place."
What changed her mind? Her kids, she says. She did it for her kids.
"I wanted to show them their mom's a fighter," Bellino explains.

She was 91 Durbin's son, Peter David, revealed the sad news in a fan club newsletter published yesterday, simply saying his mom died a "few days ago" and asking for privacy. He did not provide any further details.
Durbin was born in Winnipeg and raised in Southern California. She was discovered in junior high school, and nabbed her first role in a one-reel short, Every Sunday, opposite Judy Garland.

About a decade later, though, after appearing in 21 films, Durbin retired for good, saying she "hated being in a goldfish bowl."
She penned a letter to The New York Times in 1958 that explained "I was never happy making pictures. I've gained weight. I do my own shopping, bring up my two children and sing an hour every day."
In addition to son Peter David, the actress is survived by daughter Jessica from her second marriage.
